Unfortunately I tried downloading the free version before and it was a time-based trial which may not be beneficial if you decide to use this free on a long term basis.

These 3D buildings were then uploaded to the google warehouse and shared with others who were then able to download and see them in google earth!! Most recently we have begun designing phone cases using sketchupand exporting the files to print them out using our 3D printer!! We were fortunate enough to have our state EDU purchase us a site license to the premium version so we had unlimited time to use the product with full functionality. We then took these photos and re-created the buildings in sketchup in detail in about a week or less after a few days of instruction learning to use the tools. One specific example was in a multimedia course I was teaching we went to our town's main street and photographed the older buildings while discussing architecture at the turn of the century. I have used this product for a few years now and I have found that it is very intuitive and fun to learn! I have used this with students ranging from 6th to 12th grade in several different ways.
